CinC Syrskyi outlines current stage of army organizational reform
This was stated by General Oleksandr Syrskyi, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, during a televised interview with ICTV, according to Ukrinform.
“As for the reforms—you know that we are carrying out such a major reform. We haven’t completed it yet. This is a corps-level reform. It is in its second phase,” Syrskyi said.
He noted that corps command structures were established during the first phase: “We already had three corps at that time. Sixteen corps have been formed. That is, 13 additional corps in the Armed Forces, and two more corps in the National Guard.”
According to the Commander-in-Chief, as of today, the formation of corps units is ongoing.
"The second stage is currently underway, where we are redeploying brigades that have their own specific characteristics. For example, National Guard brigades. In fact, the first corps is already fully formed and is commanding its own brigades. The Third Army Corps, for example, has its own full complement of brigades. In other corps, where possible, we are redeploying brigades," Syrskyi said.
He added that the third stage will most likely take place as hostilities wind down.
As reported, Syrskyi stated that this year Ukraine will focus on conducting a strategic defensive operation aimed at containing the enemy.
