New rehabilitation center for soldiers opens in Kyiv

A new rehabilitation center for military personnel has opened in Kyiv as part of the national RECOVERY rehabilitation network program.

According to the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, this is the 19th innovative center in the network and the fourth in the Kyiv region. The facility will be able to provide free rehabilitation services to nearly 1,000 servicemen each year.

"The center is equipped with innovative equipment that allows specialists to treat a wide range of functional impairments, including those caused by gunshot wounds and blast injuries. Virtual reality systems and biofeedback technologies are used to help effectively restore motor functions and coordination," the statement said.

The treatment and rehabilitation area includes a physical therapy hall, rooms for individual physical rehabilitation sessions, occupational therapy, assistive technologies, laser therapy, physiotherapy, massage, as well as offices for a psychotherapist and a speech and language therapist. The facility is also equipped with inclusive restrooms and technical spaces.

Rehabilitation services are provided by a multidisciplinary team, including specialists in physical and rehabilitation medicine, physical therapists and their assistants, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, psychologists, and orthotist-prosthetist technicians.

The project also supports professional development and training, offering educational opportunities not only for network specialists but for the broader rehabilitation sector. So far, around 6,500 medical professionals have participated in training programs, including international internships in countries such as Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, the United States, Finland, Switzerland, and Sweden.

According to the ministry, the "Development of Rehabilitation Care System" is a flagship project implemented as part of the National Strategy for Creating a Barrier-Free Environment in Ukraine, initiated by First Lady Olena Zelenska.

Currently, free services within the RECOVERY network are available in multiple regions, including Vinnytsia, Dnipropetrovsk region, Kyiv region, Lutsk, Lviv, Odesa, Poltava, Rivne, Khmelnytskyi, Ternopil, Cherkasy, Chernihiv, and Chernivtsi. More than 43,000 patients have already received rehabilitation assistance through the network.
