Defense Forces regain control of 470 km² in south, says Syrskyi
According to Ukrinform, Oleksandr Syrskyi, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, announced this on Facebook.
He noted that during a working trip to the Southern Operational Zone, he held a meeting with the command of the offensive group and the commanders of assault and air assault units, and heard reports on the fulfillment of combat tasks by personnel. The participants also discussed options for further action and coordinated interactions among units within their areas of responsibility, Syrskyi wrote.
According to him, the Defense Forces continue to relentlessly liberate Ukrainian territory from the occupiers thanks to their courage and unconventional tactics. “Since the start of the operation, we have regained control over approximately 470 square kilometers, neutralizing over 11,000 invaders,” the commander-in-chief emphasized.
As reported by Ukrinform, as of March 8, the Defense Forces had managed to regain control of a 400–435-kilometer stretch of territory in the south, thereby thwarting the enemy’s plans for a spring offensive in that sector.
According to Syrskyi, Russian troops have intensified their offensive operations in several sectors simultaneously—from March 17 to 20, the Russian army carried out 619 assaults.
