National Guard downs over 500 Shahed drones since start of year – spokesperson
National Guard spokesperson Ruslan Muzychuk said this in an interview with Ukrinform, which will be published soon.
"Regarding the interception of drones and Shaheds, the work is quite successful. Since the beginning of this year alone, more than 500 Shaheds have been destroyed. For comparison, just over 270 were shot down in all of 2024," he said.
According to Muzychuk, this reflects not only improved effectiveness of National Guard units but also an increase in the intensity of enemy attacks.
"This winter showed that energy facilities and other infrastructure, on which heating and electricity supply for cities and settlements depend, are becoming targets for the enemy," he said.
He added that during nearly every large-scale air attack or targeted strike, National Guard personnel operating in mobile fire groups, along with interceptor drone crews, destroy a significant number of drones and sometimes even cruise missiles.
Ukrinform reported earlier that units of the National Guard of Ukraine were set to receive 15,000 STRILA interceptor drones funded by Germany as part of efforts to scale up drone production for the Ukrainian military.
