The United Kingdom will fund the creation of an artificial intelligence center under the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, which will focus on the implementation of AI technologies on the battlefield.

According to Ukrinform, this was announced by the British government’s press service.

“The UK will also fund a new AI Centre of Excellence that will sit within the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence,” the statement said.

It is noted that such cooperation will be mutually beneficial and will contribute to the development of the defense industries of both countries.

“This team of experts, backed by £500,000, will ensure AI is being utilised to its fullest to deliver a battlefield advantage,” the British government noted.

According to the statement, the UK and Ukraine plan to conclude an expanded defense agreement and will also explore opportunities to deepen defense-industrial and technological cooperation with third countries.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer emphasized that modern wars are increasingly dependent on technology.

“Drones, electronic warfare and rapid battlefield innovation are now central to national and economic security, and that has only been further magnified by the conflict in the Middle East,” he noted.

The Prime Minister added that “by deepening our defence partnerships, we are strengthening Ukraine’s ability to defend itself from Russia’s brutal, ongoing attacks, while ensuring the UK and our allies are better prepared to meet the threats of the future.”
