Russia attacks Ukrainian rail infrastructure overnight, injuring two railway workers

During the night of March 14, Russian forces attacked facilities of Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways), injuring a train driver and an assistant driver.

According to Ukrinform, Deputy Prime Minister for the Restoration of Ukraine – Minister for Communities and Territories Development Oleksii Kuleba reported this on Telegram.

According to Kuleba, Russia attacked several regions of Ukraine with drones and missiles. The strikes targeted the capital Kyiv, as well as the Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia, Sumy, Dnipropetrovsk, and Kharkiv regions. Fatalities were reported in the Kyiv region.

Railway infrastructure was also attacked overnight.

In the Kharkiv region, Russian forces struck a suburban train with a drone. Passengers were not injured. However, the train driver and assistant driver sustained shrapnel wounds, and medics provided them with necessary assistance at the scene. A diesel locomotive was damaged; it had been in use due to the lack of power in the overhead contact line.

The previous night, in the Kryvyi Rih district, Russian forces struck the territory of a railway station with a drone, damaging a locomotive. The locomotive crew had been evacuated in advance, and no injuries were reported.

Despite the strikes, passenger evacuations due to the threat of shelling, and damage to infrastructure, trains operated by Ukrzaliznytsia continue running, Kuleba noted.

Earlier it was reported that emergency power outages were introduced in Kyiv and the Bucha district following Russian attacks.
