Radar systems of the Romanian Ministry of National Defence detected aerial targets north of Tulcea County around 10:00 on Friday, in the area between Chilia Veche and Vylkove. The military scrambled two F-16 Fighting Falcon jets.

This is according to The Romania Journal, as reported by Ukrinform.

Romania’s defense ministry added that air defense systems were put on combat alert, and two F-16 aircraft took off from 86th Air Base Borcea to verify and monitor the airspace.

“Based on the information available so far, it is possible that drone debris may have also fallen on Romanian territory, in the Chilia Veche area,” the defense ministry said, adding that specialized teams are ready to begin a search operation.

At 10:05, a public warning message was issued to residents of the county through the RO-ALERT system, informing them of the potential risk of falling objects. Authorities advised people to remain calm and take shelter in basements or civil protection shelters.
