In January and February, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, through the Defense Procurement Agency, contracted a record number of multicopters for the front.

According to Ukrinform, this was announced on Facebook by Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov.

“On behalf of the Ministry of Defense, the Defense Procurement Agency contracted a record number of multicopters in January and February. As a result, the military will receive at least twice as many of these drones as in the same period last year,” he said.

According to Fedorov, these are Mavic, Autel, Matrice, and other drones that perform critical combat missions daily at the tactical depth of the front. In particular, they are used for reconnaissance, fire correction at a depth of up to five kilometers, striking infantry with bombs, mining roads, and improving the accuracy of FPV drones.

“In February, deliveries of multicopters increased by 17% compared to January. We managed to quickly conduct tenders and contract the necessary volumes,” the minister said.

He stressed that the units need large quantities of such drones, as they are regularly lost during combat missions. Another important task of the General Staff is to ensure the effective distribution of equipment among combat units so that it quickly reaches where it is most needed.

“At the same time, we are working on alternatives to Mavic using AI. We are already testing solutions that we will scale up on the front lines in the near future,” Fedorov assured.

The minister added that this year, purchases of key categories of drones and weapons, in particular interceptors, FPV and fiber optic drones, reconnaissance wings, and strike drones for operational depth, will be significantly increased.

“We have already formed an annual procurement plan to strengthen the Defense Forces,” he said.

As reported by Ukrinform, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has introduced a new approach to the procurement of drones.
