In February, interceptor drones destroyed more than 70% of Russian Shahed-type attack drones over Kyiv and its outskirts.

Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi reported this on Facebook, according to Ukrinform.

"The key role in this countermeasure is shifting to interceptor UAVs. For example, in Kyiv and its outskirts during February, the share of Shaheds destroyed by such interceptor drones exceeded 70%," Syrskyi said.

According to him, despite difficult weather conditions and a shortage of strike capabilities, the effectiveness of "small air defense" was maintained.

"Over the past month, our interceptor drones carried out about 6,300 sorties, destroying more than 1,500 Russian UAVs of various types," Syrskyi said.

He stressed that the implementation of projects aimed at strengthening anti-drone protection remains under close supervision.

"I am keeping the implementation of projects to enhance anti-drone defense and counter Russian Shahed-type attack drones under control," Syrskyi said.

He added that a recent meeting also discussed upgrading army aviation helicopters to counter Shaheds, forming and training interceptor drone crews, and equipping air defense divisions with unmanned systems.

"Over the past year, a significant amount of work has been done in this area, but we must step up our efforts and accelerate the pace. After all, this is primarily about protecting peaceful Ukrainian cities and villages, as well as our energy system and other rear infrastructure," he said.
