“Kill zone” reaches 20 kilometers from line of contact in south, says Voloshyn
According to Ukrinform, this was stated on television by Vladyslav Voloshyn, spokesman for the Southern Defense Forces.
"Most of the recent combat clashes have traditionally taken place in the Huliaipole sector. The situation is also quite tense in the other two Zaporizhzhia sectors, namely Orikhiv and Oleksandrivka, and the enemy continues to attempt shelling and kamikaze drone strikes in the Dniprovskyi and Kherson sectors," Voloshyn said.
According to his information, 50 combat clashes were recorded in the south over the past day, most of which — 36 — were in the Huliaipole sector. The enemy attempted to storm Ukrainian positions in Huliaipole, south and north of this settlement. In addition, the enemy tried to storm Ukrainian positions near Bilohiria and the settlements north of Huliaipole—Dobropillia and Pryluky—where Russians attempted to infiltrate deep into our defenses.
According to the spokesman, in recent days, the enemy has launched fewer kamikaze drone strikes, but the number of air strikes has been steadily increasing.
“Over the past day, more than 20 air strikes have been reported, with 70 guided aerial bombs used,” Voloshyn said.
The spokesperson noted that the parties are increasingly using unmanned aerial vehicles and ground-based robotic systems on the battlefield. In particular, the enemy deploys up to 2,000 FPV drones, 150-200 loitering munitions, and 200-250 UAVs for reconnaissance.
In addition, the enemy has recently been widely using ground-based robotic systems for logistics and evacuation of the wounded from the battlefield.
Describing the peculiarities of combat operations in the steppe zone, Voloshyn said that the line of combat engagement here is more than 100 km long. The enemy cannot bypass Ukrainian positions unnoticed, so it resorts to other means. For example, it uses more electronic warfare systems.
"One of the most distinctive features of war in the steppe is that the ‘kill zone’ [an area under intense crossfire] is much wider here than in flat terrain. Today, this so-called “kill zone,” that is, the strip from the line of combat engagement in which everything that moves is destroyed, reaches approximately 15, or even 20 km from the line of combat engagement," the spokesman said.
As reported by Ukrinform, 235 combat clashes between the Ukrainian Defense Forces and Russian invaders were recorded on the front line over the past day, February 25.
