Russian troops probe Ukrainian defenses along Kharkiv and Sumy border, Trehubov says
Spokesperson for the Joint Forces Grouping,Viktor Trehubov, stated this during a tv broadcast, Ukrinform reports, citing ArmyInform.
According to him, a "careful palpation" is ongoing along the border, probing the defensive line for weak points. The occupiers do not abandon their intention to create a "control zone" along the border line.
"In general, their task was to create a control zone up to 30 kilometers deep. This is absolutely unachievable, but they are trying to create at least about a kilometer of depth, at least to enter Ukrainian territory somewhere and simply entrench themselves. They managed to do this in the village of Hrabovske, for example. A vivid example. But beyond that, despite attempts to move further near the village of Riasne, they were unable to do so," he said.
He added that weather conditions also affect the course of hostilities. For example, severe frost paralyzes UAVs.
"In severe frost, fiber-optic cables freeze. You cannot fly much with fiber-optic drones because the cable connected to them becomes very fragile. As for copters, their blades and rotors ice up. Either it will not take off, or it will take off and crash. These difficulties apply to both sides," Trehubov noted.
As Ukrinform reported, over the past day, February 1, 179 combat engagements between the Defense Forces of Ukraine and Russian invaders were recorded on the front line.
