Enemy intensifies flanking maneuvers around Vovchansk – military

Russian troops have stepped up attempts to outflank Vovchansk and the Ukrainian units holding positions in the southern part of the city, using their proximity to the border to continuously replenish their forces.

Viktor Trehubov, Head of the Communications Department of the Joint Forces Grouping stated this on air of the Suspilne TV channel, Ukrinform reports.

"Essentially, these are once again attempts to bypass Vovchansk, to outflank the Ukrainian troops entrenched in the southern part beyond the river, and to occupy settlements behind them," Trehubov said.

According to him, the attacks are being carried out from several directions.

"Active attacks from one side, from Starytsia and Hrafske, and from the other side attempts to bypass Vovchansk itself," he noted.

Trehubov clarified that the aim of these actions is to force Ukrainian units out of the city.

"These are attempts to make Ukrainians withdraw from the remaining parts of the city simply through flanking maneuvers," he explained.

He reported that fighting is ongoing directly on the outskirts of Vovchansk, in particular in the area of Vovchanski Khutory, where the enemy is constantly replenishing its forces.

"There, forces are being constantly renewed... the distance from the border is very short, which allows them to continuously reinforce their troops there and carry out more or less constant rotations, since they do not have a major crisis with infantry," Trehubov said.

As Ukrinform reported, since the beginning of the day on January 19, on the Southern Slobozhanshchyna axis, the Russian army carried out nine attacks near Prylipka, Vovchanski Khutory, Kruhle, Nesterne, and Dehtiarnе, toward Izbytske. Four clashes are still ongoing.
