Russians attack Ukraine with Geran-5 combat drones for first time — intelligence
According to Ukrinform, this was reported by the Defense Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense.
The drone measures approximately 6 meters in length and has a wingspan of up to 5.5 meters. Unlike previous modifications of the Geran line, the device is designed according to a regular aerodynamic scheme. At the same time, most of the key components and parts are unified with other models in this series.

In particular, it uses a 12-channel Kometa satellite navigation system, a tracker based on a Raspberry Pi microcomputer and 3G/4G modems, as well as a Telefly jet engine similar to that used on the Geran-3 UAV, but with greater thrust.

The weight of the warhead is about 90 kg, and the declared range is about 1,000 km.

As with previous Geran models, it is unlikely to consider this UAV an original development of the Russian Federation. Significant design and technological similarities have been noted between the Iranian Karrar drone and this system.

According to available information, the enemy is also exploring options for using Geran-5 from aircraft carriers, specifically Su-25 aircraft, to increase range and reduce costs. Separately, the possibility of equipping the device with R-73 air-to-air missiles to counter Ukrainian aviation is being considered.

Specialists from the Defense Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine are already conducting a comprehensive study of the samples used by the enemy. A detailed analysis of the design, components, and electronic components will be published in the near future in the “Weapons” section of the War & Sanctions portal.

As reported by Ukrinform, Russia has used nearly 1,100 combat drones, more than 890 guided aerial bombs, and more than 50 missiles of various types against Ukraine this week.
