Four districts in Kyiv left without power after Russian attack, damage reported at 29 locations
DTEK Group announced this on Telegram, Ukrinform reports.
"Kyiv: 417,000 households are temporarily without power after a massive attack. Parts of the Desnianskyi, Dniprovskyi, Darnytskyi, and Holosiivskyi districts are without electricity," the statement reads.
The city's energy infrastructure sustained significant damage. Repair efforts are being complicated by strong gusty winds and freezing temperatures. Power engineers are prioritizing the restoration of electricity to critical infrastructure.
Kyiv City Military Administration chief Tymur Tkachenko reported on Telegram, following a meeting of the commission on technological and environmental safety and emergency situations, that damage had been recorded at 29 locations. Among the affected sites are about 50 buildings, four educational institutions, and 18 vehicles.
As of this morning, more than 1,000 windows in the city were found to have been blown out by the enemy strike. Work to eliminate the consequences of the attack continues.
Stabilization and emergency power outages are currently in effect in the capital. Water pressure has dropped on the right bank, with local outages in the Pecherskyi district. On the left bank, there are issues with water and heating. Specialists are doing everything possible to stabilize the situation.
Authorities are considering setting up additional heating centers, with locations to be announced later.
Regarding schools, the commission decided to switch students to a more flexible learning format, including remote learning.
"Schedules will be communicated through the education authorities. This takes into account both the weather conditions and the current situation," Tkachenko said.
In the early hours of January 9, the Russian army attacked Kyiv with drones and various types of missiles. Damage was recorded in the Darnytskyi, Dniprovskyi, Desnianskyi, Pecherskyi, Shevchenkivskyi, Holosiivskyi, and Sviatoshynskyi districts.
At least four people were killed and 25 injured in the attack.
