War update: 161 clashes along frontline over past day, fiercest fighting in Pokrovsk sector

On January 8, a total of 161 combat engagements took place between the Ukrainian Defense Forces and Russian invaders, with the enemy putting the most pressure on the Pokrovsk sector. Increased activity was also observed in the Huliaipole and Kostiantynivka sectors.

Ukrinform reports this, citing the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Facebook, with operational information as of 08:00, Friday, January 9.

According to updated data, yesterday, the Russians carried out two missile strikes and 30 airstrikes, including the use of 126 guided aerial bombs. They also deployed 6,482 kamikaze drones, shelled Ukrainian positions and settlements 4,042 times, including 160 strikes from multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS).

Enemy aviation strikes hit, among others, the settlements of Yuliivka, Rizdvianka, Hirkove, Verkhnia Tersa, Liubytske, Dorozhnianka, and Zaliznychne in the Zaporizhzhia region, and Zatoka in the Odesa region.

Ukrainian missile troops and artillery struck three enemy targets: two personnel concentration areas and a UAV command post.

In the Northern Slobozhanshchyna and Kursk sectors, there were three combat engagements; the Russian army carried out 122 shelling attacks, including nine from MLRS.

In the Southern Slobozhanshchyna sector, Ukrainian defenders repelled six enemy attacks near Buruhuvatka, Vilcha, and Fyholivka.

In the Kupiansk sector, Russian forces attacked six times; Ukrainian troops repelled assaults toward Kupiansk, Kurylivka, Petropavlivka, and Nova Kruhliakivka.

In the Lyman sector, the enemy launched 10 attacks, attempting to breach defenses toward Drobysheve, Lyman, Stavky, and Novoselivka.

In the Sloviansk sector, four enemy attacks were repelled near Siversk, Dronivka, and Fedorivka.

In the Kramatorsk sector, no offensive actions by Russian forces were reported.

In the Kostiantynivka sector, 18 engagements occurred near Kostiantynivka, Oleksandro-Shultyne, Pleshchiivka, Ivanopillia, Rusyn Yar, Sofiivka, and toward Stepanivka.

In the Pokrovsk sector, 33 enemy assaults were repelled near Nykonorivka, Chervonyi Lyman, Rodynske, Myrnohrad, Pokrovsk, Kotlyne, Udachne, Molodetske, Filiia, and Dachne.

In the Oleksandrivka sector, there were 13 enemy attacks near Verbove, Vyshneve, Zlahoda, Rybne, Yehorivka, Sichneve, as well as toward Ivanivka and Oleksandrohrad.

In the Huliaipole sector, 21 Russian attacks were repelled near Solodke, Huliaipole, and Varvarivka.

In the Orikhiv sector, Ukrainian forces repelled one Russian attack near Mali Shcherbaky.

In the Prydniprovske sector, three attacks were repelled toward the Antonivskyi Bridge.

In the Volyn and Polissia sectors, no signs of enemy offensive group formations were detected.

As previously reported by Ukrinform, the total combat losses of Russian forces in personnel from February 24, 2022, to January 9, 2026, have reached approximately 1,216,930, of which 1,030 were eliminated in the past 24 hours.
