War update: 229 clashes along frontline over past day, most attacks in Huliaipole, Pokrovsk sectors

A total of 229 combat clashes between Ukraine’s Defense Forces and Russian invaders were recorded along the frontline over the past day, January 4. Ukrainian defenders repelled the largest number of attacks in the Huliaipole and Pokrovsk sectors.

According to Ukrinform, this was reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Facebook in its update of the situation as of 8:00 on Monday, January 5.

Russian forces carried out 62 air strikes, dropped 185 guided aerial bombs, and used one missile. In addition, they conducted 4,016 shelling attacks, including 84 using multiple launch rocket systems, and deployed 5,232 kamikaze drones.

Russian forces launched air strikes on areas near the settlements of Velyka Mykhailivka in the Dnipropetrovsk region, as well as Orikhiv, Preobrazhenka, Pryluky, and Zelene in the Zaporizhzhia region.

Aircraft, missile forces, and artillery of Ukraine’s Defense Forces struck nine clusters of enemy personnel, weapons, and military equipment, three artillery systems, one electronic warfare asset, and two Russian drone control points.

In the Northern Slobozhanshchyna and Kursk sectors, the enemy carried out 99 shelling attacks, including one using multiple launch rocket systems.

In the Southern Slobozhanshchyna sector, Ukrainian troops stopped eight enemy attacks near Vovchansk, Starytsia, Prylipky, Fyholivka, and toward Izbytske and Kutkivka.

In the Kupiansk sector, three enemy attacks were recorded. Ukrainian defenders repelled Russian assault operations near Stepova Novoselivka, Pershotravneve, and toward Petropavlivka.

In the Lyman sector, the enemy attacked 10 times, attempting to break through Ukrainian defenses near the settlements of Novoselivka, Kolodiazne, and Torske.

In the Sloviansk sector, Ukraine’s Defense Forces repelled six Russian attacks near Dronivka, Siversk, and Sviato-Pokrovske.

In the Kramatorsk sector, one combat clash took place near the settlement of Stupochky.

In the Kostiantynivka sector, the enemy carried out 18 attacks near Pleshchiivka, Oleksandro-Shultyne, Rusyn Yar, Yablunivka, and toward Sofiivka.

In the Pokrovsk sector, Ukrainian defenders stopped 54 Russian assault actions near Shakhove, Nykanorivka, Rodynske, Myrnohrad, Pokrovsk, Kotlyne, Udachne, Molodetske, and toward Novopavlivka.

In the Oleksandrivka sector, the enemy conducted 24 attacks near the settlements of Zelenyi Hai, Oleksandrohrad, Sosnivka, Vorone, Oleksiivka, Vyshneve, Solodke, and Yehorivka.

In the Huliaipole sector, Ukraine’s Defense Forces repelled 65 Russian attacks near Zelene, Huliaipole, Varvarivka, Dorozhnianka, and toward Sviatopetrivka.

In the Orikhiv sector, the enemy made eight attempts to break through Ukrainian defenses in the areas of Plavni, Mala Tokmachka, Shcherbaky, and Stepove.

In the Prydniprovske sector, no enemy offensive actions were recorded.

No signs of Russian offensive group formations were detected in the Volyn and Polissia sectors.

As previously reported by Ukrinform, total combat losses of Russian forces in the war against Ukraine from February 24, 2022, to January 5, 2026, amount to approximately 1,212,520 personnel, including 990 losses over the past day.
