Nearly 60 Russian strikes hit Sumy region over past day, civilian killed

Russian forces carried out nearly 60 attacks on 24 settlements across 12 territorial communities in Ukraine’s Sumy region over the past day.

The Sumy Regional Military Administration reported this on Telegram, according to Ukrinform.

“Over the course of the day, starting in the morning of January 3 to the morning of January 4, 2026, Russian troops conducted nearly 60 attacks on 24 settlements in 12 territorial communities of the region. The highest number of shelling incidents was recorded in the Sumy and Shostka districts,” the statement said.

As a result of Russian attacks on the region during the day, one civilian was killed. In the Esman community, a 52-year-old man was killed by an FPV drone strike.

The enemy used artillery, mortars, FPV drones, UAVs and guided aerial bombs to attack the Sumy region.

In the Nova Sloboda community, a private household was destroyed. In the Sumy community, a civilian infrastructure facility, a private household, a non-residential building and a vehicle were damaged.

In the Znob-Novhorod community, a civilian infrastructure facility was destroyed, while another civilian infrastructure site, private households and a passenger car were damaged. In the Seredyna Buda community, a civilian infrastructure facility was damaged. In the Konotop community, a non-residential building was damaged.

Over the past day, local authorities, together with units of the State Emergency Service, the National Police and public organizations, evacuated four people from border communities.

As previously reported by Ukrinform, Russian forces shelled 25 settlements in the Sumy region the day before yesterday, leaving one person injured.
