Since the evening of January 3, Russia’s capital has come under attack by 19 drones. Against the backdrop of the attack, four airports in Moscow and beyond were temporarily closed.

As reported by Ukrinform, this was stated by the BBC Russian service, citing statements by Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin.

Around midnight, the mayor said on social media that Russian air defense had allegedly shot down another drone which, according to him, was heading toward the capital.

From 19:37 to 23:37 local time, 19 UAVs were allegedly downed, which Sobyanin claims were flying toward Moscow.

He did not provide information on any damage on the ground, but in each statement noted that emergency services were working at the sites where drone debris fell.

It is reported that Russia’s Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsiya) closed Moscow’s Vnukovo and Zhukovsky airports during the evening, as well as the airports in Yaroslavl and Ivanovo, located north and northeast of Moscow.

Meanwhile, Russia’s Ministry of Defense claimed that 104 drones were allegedly shot down over nine Russian regions and the annexed Crimea on Saturday evening.

According to Russia’s defense ministry, 44 drones were downed over Bryansk region, 18 each over Kaluga and Moscow regions, while the remaining UAVs were allegedly destroyed over Kursk, Oryol, Tula, Tver and Rostov regions, the Krasnodar Territory, as well as over the annexed Crimea and the Sea of Azov.
