In the Republic of Adygea (Russian Federation), explosions were heard overnight on December 29 in the area of the Khanskaya military airfield.

The Telegram channel ASTRA reported this, according to Ukrinform.

According to the report, residents of Adygea’s capital, Maykop, said they heard explosions, with claims that the Khanskaya military airfield had come under attack.

Later, eyewitness footage featuring sounds of gunfire and explosions appeared online, with ASTRA geolocating one of the videos.

“The footage was recorded on Novaya Street in Maykop. The distance from the filming location to Khanskaya airfield is approximately 6.5 km. The footage shows the operation of air defense systems; there is no confirmation that the airfield was hit. The air defense position is located southeast of the runway of the airfield,” an ASTRA OSINT analyst said.

Khanskaya airfield is a military airfield belonging to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Adygea. It is located about 3 km east of the stanitsa of Khanskaya and 6 km northwest of the city of Maykop. According to open-source data, it hosts a training aviation unit — the 272nd Aviation Base.

The regional authorities did not comment on the attack; however, Russia’s Ministry of Defense later reported that 89 UAVs were shot down overnight over Russian territory, including 11 over the Republic of Adygea. Drones also targeted the Bryansk region (49), the Novgorod region (18), the Krasnodar region (7), and one each over the waters of the Sea of Azov, the Rostov region, and the Smolensk region.

As reported by Ukrinform, last year, drones had already struck the Khanskaya airfield, when a fire broke out near the administrative center of the Russian republic of Adygea, Maykop.
