Ukraine’s forces conducting clearing operations in Kupiansk as fighting ongoing nearby
This was stated on television by Viktor Tregubov, Head of the Communications Department of the Joint Forces Group, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
“There is pressure in the Kupiansk sector, and there are attempts to somehow recover and compensate for the situation into which they [the invaders — ed.] drove themselves near Kupiansk,” Tregubov said.
According to him, the situation inside the town itself is under control, and the presence of Russian troops there is temporary.
“Inside Kupiansk, clearing operations are underway against the remnants of those Russians who entered the town earlier. In Kupiansk itself, everything is fine in this regard – it is a matter of a short time,” he noted.
The Joint Forces spokesperson added that at the same time, the enemy is trying to conduct active operations near the town, particularly on the left bank of the Oskil River.
“Near Kupiansk, especially on the left bank of the Oskil River, the Russians are trying to apply pressure,” Tregubov said.
He emphasized that these actions have brought no results.
“Accordingly, they are regrouping and exerting pressure on our forces, but as of now, without any success for themselves. Nevertheless, war remains war,” the Joint Forces representative explained.
Commenting on the situation with Russian troops who remain in Kupiansk, Tregubov confirmed that they had been abandoned by Russian command.
“Well, essentially yes, but on the other hand, they could not have acted differently,” he acknowledged.
According to the Joint Forces spokesperson, Russia lost these units due to their own miscalculations.
“They were lost simply because Russia failed from the outset to provide the necessary groundwork for this operation. They advanced too far, too fast,” Tregubov stressed, adding that at present Russia “even if it wanted to, could do very little.”
As reported by Ukrinform, over the past day, December 25, one enemy attack took place in the Kupiansk sector. Ukrainian defenders repelled an enemy assault toward Hlushkivka.
