No “mass evacuation” from Zaporizhzhia region, regional chief says

Evacuation of local residents is currently taking place from several frontline communities in Zaporizhzhia region. The most difficult situation is in Huliaipole, but currently there is no “large-scale evacuation” from the region — these are dozens, not hundreds, of people.

Ivan Fedorov, Head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, stated this during a briefing in response to a question from Ukrinform.

“There is no mass evacuation from Zaporizhzhia region. From some communities where we see an escalation, we are now ensuring the evacuation of people. These are dozens, not hundreds, of individuals. The most difficult situation is in Huliaipole, from where we evacuate 10–20 people daily. Slightly over 400 people still live there, and evacuation continues every day. If there is a need to carry out more evacuations, we will provide them. The main thing is that people are willing to leave,” he said.

According to the head of the regional administration, mandatory evacuation of families with children from frontline communities is currently in effect. This process is nearly complete. The evacuations have been carried out by the National Police and volunteers.

“This morning, we held a meeting on this issue. Unfortunately, there are situations where it is extremely difficult for us to carry out an evacuation because parents refuse to leave. Our task is dialogue, even when we are talking about mandatory evacuation,” Fedorov explained.
