Wife of first liquidator killed in Chornobyl accident dies in hospital
According to Ukrinform, this was reported by the State Agency of Ukraine on Exclusion Zone Management on Facebook.
“With deep sorrow and heartfelt grief, we announce the passing of Natalia Khodymchuk, the wife of the first victim of the Chornobyl disaster, Valerii Khodemchuk — a mother, grandmother, and a woman of immense heart and remarkable destiny. She passed away during the night of November 14 to 15, unable to survive the grave consequences of a Shahed strike on a residential building in Troieshchyna,” the statement reads.
It is reported that after the Shahed strike on the building in Troieshchyna, where families of former Chornobyl NPP employees lived, Natalia Khodymchuk was hospitalized in critical condition with burns covering 45% of her body. Her apartment was destroyed by fire.
“We have lost a woman who survived the inferno of Chornobyl, who lost her husband, raised her children, and withstood tragedies that could break anyone. But not her. Natalia lived with dignity, love, and a quiet strength that inspired all who knew her personally or through her story. She was cheerful, supportive, and radiant. Now her voice joins the voices of all innocent Ukrainians killed by Russian terror,” the agency emphasized.
Natalia Khodymchuk was 73 years old.
As reported, emergency rescue operations in Kyiv’s Desnianskyi district at the site of the Russian strike on 14 November have been completed. Seven people were killed in the massive attack on the capital.
