Ukraine's energy minister: We will deal with corruption case in energy sector

Ukrinform
The Ukrainian Energy Ministry will respond to the recently uncovered corruption scheme in the energy sector according to the results of the investigation.

Minister of Energy, Svitlana Hrynchuk, stated this in response to an Ukrinform correspondent's question about the implications of the exposed corruption scheme at Energoatom for the company's supervisory board.

"Energoatom is not directly managed by the Ministry of Energy. However, as the ministry responsible for forming and implementing policy across the entire energy sector, we will deal with this case and respond according to the results of the investigation," Hrynchuk said.

She emphasized that Energoatom's supervisory board oversees the company's financial and anti-corruption policies.

As reported earlier, on November 10, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) announced the exposure of a corruption scheme in the energy sector. The main activity of the criminal organization was the systematic receipt of illegal benefits from Energoatom's contractors, amounting to 10–15% of contract values.

NABU noted that it was conducting a special operation to uncover corruption in the energy sector.

According to the bureau, members of the criminal organization built a large-scale corruption network to influence strategic enterprises in the state sector, including Energoatom.

As a knowledgeable law enforcement source told Ukrinform, on the morning of November 10, NABU conducted searches at the home of businessman and co-owner of the Kvartal 95 studio, Tymur Mindich, as well as at the home of Justice Minister German Galushchenko, who previously served as Minister of Energy.
