Russia launches 405 drones and 28 missiles against Ukraine, air defense neutralizes 349 targets
According to Ukrinform, the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported the data on Facebook.
During the night of October 22 (from 19:00 on October 21), the enemy carried out a combined strike targeting Ukraine’s critical infrastructure, employing combat UAVs and air-launched ballistic missiles, and surface-to-surface missiles.
In total, the Air Force’s radio-technical units detected and tracked 433 aerial targets — 28 missiles (including 15 ballistic) and 405 drones of various types:
405 attack UAVs of Shahed, Herbera, and other types, launched from Kursk, Millerovo, Orel, Primorsko-Akhtarsk (Russia), and Chauda ( the temporarily occupied Autonomous Republic of Crimea), including about 250 Shahed drones;
11 Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles launched from Bryansk, Rostov regions (Russia), and the temporarily occupied Donetsk region;
9 Iskander-K cruise missiles launched from Kursk, Voronezh regions (Russia), and temporarily occupied Crimea;
4 Kh-47M2 Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles launched from airspace over the Rostov region (Russia);
4 Kh-59/69 guided air-launched missiles were launched from the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia region.
“The main axis of attack was the Kyiv region. Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, Cherkasy, Chernihiv, and Odesa regions also came under attack,” the Air Force noted.
The Air Force, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare and UAV units, and mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Defense Forces jointly repelled the attack.
As of 12:30 p.m., preliminary reports indicate that air defense shot down or suppressed 349 aerial targets:
333 enemy drones of Shahed, Herbera, and other types;
8 Iskander-K cruise missiles;
6 Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles;
2 Kh-59/69 guided air-launched missiles.
So far, there have been direct hits from 12 missiles and 55 attack UAVs across 26 locations, and debris from downed targets fell on 19 sites. Additionally, 17 drones failed to reach their targets (lost contact mid-flight); information is being clarified. Casualties and injuries have been reported.
As Ukrinform earlier reported, in the Russian attack on a kindergarten in Kharkiv, one person was killed and seven were injured, while about 50 children were evacuated.
