Russia conscripts residents of occupied Luhansk region and deploys them to fight in south — Voloshyn
This was stated in a comment to Ukrinform by Vladyslav Voloshyn, spokesman for the Southern Defense Forces.
According to him, one of the Russian airborne units recently received new reinforcements, about 50 people, mainly residents of the occupied Luhansk region.
“Despite assurances from Russia's top military and political leadership that residents of the temporarily occupied territories would not be recruited into the Russian army, they are now conscripting men and sending them to war with Ukraine, in particular to the southern directions, to the Kherson region,” Voloshyn said.
In 2024, more than 10,000 men were drafted to the Russian army from the temporarily occupied territories of the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions and, partially, the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
