Over the past four days, warriors of the 30th Marine Corps destroyed four Russian artillery systems that had been shelling Kherson.

Colonel Oleksandr Zavtonov, spokesperson for the 30th Marine Corps of the Ukrainian Navy, reported this in a comment to Ukrinform.

“Over the past four days, the warriors of the 30th Marine Corps have destroyed four artillery systems that were shelling Kherson,” the spokesperson said.

According to him, between October 7 and 10, Russian forces carried out 38 artillery attacks on settlements located within the defense zone of the 30th Marine Corps. Zavtonov added that Kherson suffers the most from these attacks, as the city is practically “on the frontline.”

“Unlike the Russian occupiers, we do not position our artillery within urban areas so as not to endanger civilians. Nevertheless, we have the means to counter such terrorist attacks,” Zavtonov explained.

He noted that during this period, Ukrainian forces killed or wounded 83 Russian troops and destroyed or damaged 48 pieces of weapons and equipment, including the four artillery systems that shelled Kherson. These results, he said, were achieved through counter-battery warfare that combines artillery, drones, and modern reconnaissance systems.

Zavtonov emphasized that, lacking success on the battlefield, the enemy continues to strike the regional center, maintaining its terrorist tactics against civilians.

“We are doing everything to protect the city, detect and destroy enemy personnel, weapons, and equipment, and minimize threats to our citizens,” he stressed.

He added that Kherson remains target number one for Russian forces, and Ukrainian defenders are focusing on systematically weakening the enemy’s capabilities — destroying their artillery and equipment and gradually reducing the intensity of attacks.

As Ukrinform reported, in autumn 2022, the Armed Forces of Ukraine liberated the right-bank part of the Kherson region, including Kherson city. The part of the region located on the left bank of the Dnipro River remains temporarily occupied by Russian troops, while Ukrainian units continue to hold positions there.
