Over 200 Russian servicemen convicted of war crimes in Ukraine

A total of 202 Russian servicemen have been convicted of violating the laws and customs of war in Ukraine.

The Office of the Prosecutor General (OPG) stated this in response to a Ukrinform's inquiry.

“To date, under Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — violation of the laws and customs of war — 1,012 individuals have been charged, indictments have been sent to court against 742 persons, and 202 have been convicted, 19 of whom were physically present in court,” the OPG said.

The prosecutor’s office also reported that, together with international partners, investigations continue into Russian war crimes committed in Bucha and Bucha district of Kyiv region.

“So far, 199 individuals have been charged, indictments have been filed against 151 persons, and 27 war criminals have been convicted — one of them physically present and sentenced to 12 years in prison,” the statement noted.

Earlier, Ukrainian law enforcement agencies reported investigations into the executions of 322 Ukrainian prisoners of war, including 263 killed on the battlefield and 59 in the Olenivka penal colony.
