Cyber specialists from the Ukrainian Defense Ministry's Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR) carried out a successful attack that disrupted the operation of Russia's national payment system SBP, which is widely used for transferring funds to "charitable and volunteer organizations" that support the so-called "special military operation."
HUR sources informed Ukrinform about the operation.
As a result of the DDoS attack on the SBP system and the provider TransTeleCom, many Russians were unable to make instant transfers or conduct online payments.
Social media users in Yekaterinburg posted numerous complaints about being unable to pay for public transport or make purchases at gas stations.
The cyberattack also left hundreds of thousands of subscribers of local providers across several regions of the Russian Federation without internet access and interactive television.
Preliminary estimates suggest that the economic losses from the DDoS attack on the SBP payment system amount to as much as $30 million.
