At least 92 Americans killed in combat in Ukraine — NYT

This figure comes from the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in the Second World War and was reported by The New York Times, according to Ukrinform.

The museum is displaying an exhibit on foreign combatants in the current war. Exhibition curator Yurii Horpynych noted that “several thousand” Americans were serving in Ukraine’s Armed Forces. Based on the museum’s estimates, at least 92 of them have been killed in combat in Ukraine.

The NYT article notes that the U.S. government, determined to avoid any suggestion of direct conflict between American and Russian troops, provides almost no assistance to volunteer combatants.

A U.S. nonprofit group, the R.T. Weatherman Foundation, helps Americans wounded while fighting in the Ukrainian army, returns remains of deceased soldiers to the United States and tracks cases of those missing in action.

As previously reported by Ukrinform, two American volunteers— Edward Walter Wilton and Grady Kurpasi—were killed in 2023 while defending Ukraine against Russian forces.
