IAEA says no independent confirmation of reported incident at Russia’s Kursk NPP

Ukrinform
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is aware of media reports about damage to a transformer at Russia’s Kursk Nuclear Power Plant caused by military action. However, the agency does not have independent confirmation of these reports.

According to Ukrinform, the IAEA shared this in a post on social media platform X.

“IAEA is aware of media reports that a transformer at the Kursk NPP in Russia has caught fire due to military activity. While the IAEA has no independent confirmation of these reports, Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi stresses that ‘every nuclear facility must be protected at all times’,” the statement reads.

Earlier, Russian media claimed that Russian air defenses had allegedly shot down a drone near the Kursk NPP, and that its debris supposedly damaged a transformer.
