Netherlands to deploy 300 troops with Patriot systems to Poland to safeguard arms deliveries to Ukraine

These air defense systems are not intended to repel attacks on Ukrainian territory.

Dutch Defense Minister Ruben Brekelmans stated that the deployment was aimed at protecting NATO's eastern flank, which serves as a key military hub for supporting Ukraine, as well as at deterring and discouraging Russia.

The Dutch mission will last at least until the end of May.

It is noted that when the two Patriot systems are temporarily deployed to Poland, one will remain in the Netherlands, which will allow national security to be maintained.

The minister also added that NATO's activities in Poland and the deterrence of Russia contribute to the protection of the Netherlands.

Earlier, the Netherlands agreed to deploy F-35 fighter jets in Poland, which will control NATO airspace together with their Norwegian colleagues from September 1 to December 1.

As reported by Ukrinform, Dutch Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp said that Ukraine's defense capabilities must be strengthened due to ongoing Russian aggression, which is why the Netherlands is allocating €500 million to a new initiative.
