An explosion at the gunpowder workshop of the Elastik factory in Russia’s Ryazan region, Shilovsky district, has left multiple people dead and injured.

This is according to reports from Telegram channels Baza and Astra, cited by Ukrinform.

Following the blast, a fire engulfed the facility, completely destroying the powder shop building. Preliminary reports suggest the explosion may have been caused by violations of safety regulations.

More than 100 people were evacuated from the site.

At least five people have been confirmed dead, while 20 others were injured, including 10 in serious condition.

Rescue efforts are ongoing, with reports indicating that several individuals remain trapped under the rubble, though access to them is currently limited.

The Elastik factory is known to lease space to Razryad, a private explosives manufacturer that produces industrial explosives, including those made from recycled ammunition. Notably, in October 2021, an explosion at Razryad’s workshop at the same site claimed 17 lives.

As reported by Ukrinform, last year, an explosion at the Avangard plant in Sterlitamak, Bashkortostan (Russia) killed at least three people
