Police officer killed in Pokrovsk following Russian drone strike

On August 1, in the Donetsk region, Ihor Samofalov, a district officer with the Pokrovsk District Police Department, was killed in the line of duty during a Russian drone strike.

According to Ukrinform, this was reported by the Donetsk Regional Police on Facebook.

"He was with the people to the very end: police officer Ihor Samofalov died in the Donetsk region," the statement reads.

Ihor had served in law enforcement for over 10 years. He worked as a district police officer in Pokrovsk, the city where he was born and raised.

“Ihor Samofalov was a true professional, a dependable friend, and a man with a generous heart. He served to the very end, working in the most dangerous conditions. His devotion to others and unwavering willingness to help will be forever remembered by his colleagues,” the police said.

Just days before the attack, on July 28, Ihor had celebrated his 39th birthday.

He is survived by his parents, wife, and 9-year-old son.
