Washington rushes to provide weapons to Ukraine

The United States, following President Donald Trump's plan for Europe to purchase weapons, sought to quickly supply weapons to Ukraine and considered the possibility of selling Patriot air defense systems from its reserves.

This was stated by the Permanent Representative of the United States to NATO, Matthew Whitaker, Barron's reports, according to Ukrinform.

“We are all moving with haste to facilitate this and get this done, and, you know, I think things are actually moving very quickly,” Whitaker told reporters.

He added that he “can't verify a date that this will all be completed” and said that “ongoing conversation” about whether the United States will sell the Patriot systems it has in its military reserves.

“We're never going to put the United States at a strategic disadvantage, and we're going to make sure that we have everything we need,” Whitaker said.

The Permanent Representative stated that the United States is engaged in “daily conversations” with allies about this process ahead of possible announcements in the coming months.

“We've agreed to no surprises and no gaps in the strategic framework of Europe. I don't think there's a lot of anxiety. I think there's just a lot of desire to know what our plan is so that there can be other planning,” the Permanent Representative of the United States to NATO noted.

As reported by Ukrinform, Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz assured that Ukraine will receive Patriot missiles in the coming weeks, with all issues currently being coordinated at the level of defense ministries.

NATO Supreme Allied Commander Europe, Alexus Grynkewich, confirmed that he had received instructions to send Patriot systems to Ukraine as soon as possible.
