Ukrainian paratroopers have captured a Russian military serviceman recruited for war against Ukraine while under a criminal investigation.

The 95th Separate Polissia Airborne Assault Brigade reported this on Facebook, Ukrinform saw.

“There is plenty of evidence that the Russians are seeking manpower reserves among prisoners. But now it has become known that they do not disdain to recruit ‘newbies’ at pre-trial detention centers, without waiting for the end of the investigative actions and the court verdict. It was such a ‘victim’ of the Russian KGB bosses who was captured by soldiers from the 95th Brigade,” the brigade noted.

As established by Ukraine’s military counterintelligence, the POW in question, Alexei Shvartsman, was about to get convicted for battery. It was under duress that he signed a contract with Russia’s 104th guards airborne assault regiment.

“The commanders said everything would be fine. They deceived us. They said there was no war as such. ‘Birds’, only ‘birds’ (drones. - ed.), only digging in and sitting there,” the invader complains.

At the same time, according to the Russian, he and his colleagues were constantly threatened with “zeroing out”.

Among other things, the prisoner spoke about the so-called “Z companies” where Russian servicemen who suffered minor injuries are sent instead of being hospitalized, to get thrown back into a meat grinder.

As Ukrinform reported, in the Siversk axis, Ukraine’s Defense Forces captured two Cameroon nationals fighting on Russia’s side.
