Russian forces are attempting to break through Ukrainian defenses and advance in three key operational directions in the Donetsk region.

Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi wrote this in a Facebook post following his visit to frontline units in the region, as reported by Ukrinform.

“Our soldiers are repelling fierce attacks by the occupiers every day in the Novopavlivka, Pokrovsk, Kramatorsk, and Toretsk sectors. Combat clashes are ongoing in a new direction—Dobropillia. The enemy is pushing toward Kostiantynivka, but has achieved nothing beyond sustaining significant losses,” Syrskyi wrote.

Syrskyi said that the aggressor is attempting to break through Ukrainian defenses and advance along three operational directions, deploying forces from the 68th Army Corps as well as the 20th and 150th motorized rifle divisions.

According to him, Russian forces launched a major assault near Yablunivka last week, deploying 24 armored vehicles in an attempt to break through Ukrainian defenses.

“Our troops successfully repelled the attack, destroying a significant number of enemy personnel and eliminating 20 armored vehicles,” Syrskyi reported.

During his visit to the frontline, the commander-in-chief received detailed briefings from field commanders—including those of the newly formed army corps, mechanized brigades, assault units, and marine forces—and issued instructions aimed at enhancing defensive coordination and operational readiness.

Syrskyi emphasized the need to bolster Ukrainian forces with trained personnel and ensure timely, well-informed command decisions.

He underlined the importance of maintaining full operational control and ensuring unit effectiveness, particularly during the ongoing corps-level reform, where groups of forces are assuming command of army corps across various operational sectors.

Syrskyi also expressed his gratitude to Ukrainian defenders for their courage, selflessness, and significant contributions in repelling Russian invaders.

As reported by Ukrinform, Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi stated that Russian forces continue attempts to break through toward the administrative border of the Donetsk region in the Pokrovsk direction—not solely for operational gains, but also as a demonstrative show of force.
