Ukraine destroys three Russian helicopters, air defense system at Crimea airfield

On the night of June 28, the Security Service of Ukraine attacked the Kirovske airbase in the temporarily occupied Crimea, employing drones that effectively destroyed three attack helicopters (Mi-8, Mi-26, and Mi-28), and a Pantsir-S1 self-propelled anti-aircraft system.

That’s according to an SBU report posted on Telegram and seen by Ukrinform.

Fire damage was inflicted on the aviation component base, air defense capabilities, ammunition depots, as well as reconnaissance and attack UAVs, the report says.

Available damage assessment data point to the destruction of multi-purpose attack helicopters, Mi-8, Mi-26 and Mi-28, as well as a Pantsir-S1 anti-aircraft missile system.

A secondary detonation rocked the airfield in the early hours of Saturday.

"The SBU is systematically working to reduce Russia’s capabilities to deliver air and bomb strikes against the territory of Ukraine. The invaders should realize that their costly military equipment and ammunition are not protected anywhere: neither on the line of combat contact, nor in temporarily captured territories, nor in their deep rear," the SBU said.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, overnight Friday, June 27, the Ukrainian Defense Forces hit four Su-34 fighter-bombers at the Marinovka airfield in Russia’s Volgograd region.
