Kharkiv regional governor outlines key challenge in defending region

Protecting critical infrastructure remains the primary challenge in the Kharkiv region, while humanitarian aid mechanisms are now functioning effectively.

According to the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, its head, Oleh Syniehubov, highlighted this issue during a meeting with representatives of the Latvian National Armed Forces and the Latvian Embassy in Ukraine.

"At the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the biggest challenge was the humanitarian crisis -- ensuring food supplies and organizing evacuations. These mechanisms are now well-established, but the protection of critical infrastructure remains a pressing concern," Syniehubov said.

Since the start of the war, the Kharkiv region has endured nearly 22,000 attacks, with over 77,600 critical infrastructure sites damaged or destroyed.

The Kharkiv Regional Military Administration emphasized its ongoing collaboration with Latvia in the areas of security and humanitarian assistance. The parties also plan to seek international support to address humanitarian challenges.
