Waltz outlines his vision for ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine

U.S. National Security Advisor Mike Waltz has stated that the first step toward a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine should be halting drone and missile strikes on energy infrastructure by both sides.

He said this in an interview with Fox News, according to Ukrinform.

"Both sides need to stop launching drones and missiles into nuclear power plants, oil pipelines, and power grids. One day, these will all have to be rebuilt. Let's have that first step of pulling back and pulling down violence, exchanging prisoners as a good-faith first effort," Waltz said.

He noted that the next step would involve resolving issues in the Black Sea.

"Then we're going to move to maritime [issues]. Both countries sit on the Black Sea -- they have to trade in oil, gas, and grain, literally feed their people and others. That will be the next step," Waltz said.

According to him, the most challenging stage will follow.

"Then comes the very difficult [issue], they call it the 'line of control.' This trench warfare is nearly 800 miles [1,300 kilometers] long," he said.
