Ukrainian intelligence strikes Novokuybyshevsk oil refinery – source
This time, the Novokuybyshevsk oil refinery in the Samara region was targeted, a facility that produces fuel for the jet engines of supersonic aircraft, such as the Su-27, Tu-22M3, and others.
The refinery was struck at around 02:00 local time, with explosions heard in several districts of the city.
Local witnesses in public forums reported a series of explosions at the facility, noting that the installation of protective mesh, designed to safeguard the plant from UAV attacks, had not been fully completed in time.
The Novokuybyshevsk oil refinery is the most powerful oil processing plant among those in the Samara group of the Russian oil company Rosneft. Its designed capacity exceeds 8.8 million tonnes of oil per year. The plant is a major producer of high-quality RT-grade fuel, which is used for turbojet subsonic and some supersonic aircraft, including the Su-27 and Tu-22M3. These aircraft are used by Russia's occupation forces for missile strikes against Ukraine.
The refinery had already been attacked at least twice in March 2024.
