Russian forces attempt to secure position near Novenke in Sumy region – Demchenko
Andrii Demchenko, spokesperson for Ukraine's State Border Guard Service, stated this on Ukrainian television, Ukrinform reports.
"We are recording enemy attempts to create an active combat zone in the area of Novenke on Ukrainian territory and secure a position there. These are small assault groups consisting of a few individuals. They are trying to infiltrate our territory, consolidate their presence, and advance deeper into Ukraine, likely with the aim of disrupting supply routes," Demchenko said.
He stressed that Ukrainian forces are using artillery, mortars, and reconnaissance-strike drone systems to destroy the enemy, prevent troop buildup, and stop the expansion of combat operations.
"In frontline areas where State Border Guard Service units operate, the enemy is actively using all available means to attack our positions and launch strikes. We are witnessing an increase in shelling, including drone attacks, with some using fiber-optic guidance," Demchenko said.
He said that the Kupiansk sector remains the most intense, with Russian forces continuing their assaults. The enemy is deploying assault groups in an effort to dislodge Ukrainian units and expand the combat zone, but these attempts have been unsuccessful.
Earlier reports said that according to Vadym Mysnyk, spokesperson for the Siversk Operational and Tactical Group of Forces, Russian activity along the border has decreased over the past week, except for areas in the Sumy region bordering Russia's Kursk region.
