Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced new military aid for Ukraine, including infantry fighting vehicles, landing systems, and flight simulators for F-16 fighter jets, as well as the first tranche of assistance funded through revenues from frozen Russian assets.

Trudeau made the announcement during his speech at the Support Ukraine summit in Kyiv on Monday, Ukrinform reports.

"I am announcing that Canada will be providing 25 more LAV III infantry fighting vehicles to Ukraine. We will be delivering two armored combat support vehicles, which Ukrainian forces will be trained on shortly in Germany. Landing systems for F-16s we delivered just two months ago and four F-16 flight simulators will be provided in the coming months. And that's on top of millions of additional rounds of ammunition, components for drone cameras, and first aid kits," Trudeau said.

He also noted that Canada would disburse the first installment of CAD 5 billion in assistance to Ukraine funded through revenues from frozen Russian assets, along with providing a grant to help Ukraine maintain its energy security in the wake of consistent reckless attacks by Russia on Ukraine's energy infrastructure.

The Support Ukraine summit, attended by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, is taking place in Kyiv on Monday. It brought together leaders from Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Spain, Canada, Finland, Denmark, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden, as well as the OSCE Secretary-General, the French Minister for European Affairs, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and European Council President Antonio Costa.
