UK may send Typhoon jets to Ukraine as part of peacekeeping mission – The Times

The United Kingdom is considering deploying Typhoon fighter jets to patrol Ukraine's airspace as part of security guarantees following a ceasefire agreement.

According to The Times, citing government sources, British ministers have discussed ways to provide security guarantees to Ukraine without committing a large number of ground troops. A senior government official noted that an air patrol mission would be a viable option, though it would require a substantial number of aircraft and air defense systems to ensure their protection.

In theory, the UK could send dozens of Typhoon jets ready to counter any potential Russian attacks, while peacekeeping forces from Britain and other European nations would focus on security on the ground, the report states.

The proposed UK-led air patrol mission could be modeled after NATO's air policing operations in the Baltic states. A source in the Royal Air Force suggested that such a mission would be more feasible than enforcing a no-fly zone, which would require continuous round-the-clock air patrols. British jets could potentially be stationed in Poland.
