Defense forces repel nearly fifty attacks in six directions

The Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 49 enemy attacks in six directions and seven more assaults on the left bank of the Dnipro River over the day.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported this on Facebook, publishing an update as of 6 p.m. on Sunday, January 28.

In total, according to the General Staff, 61 combat engagements took place at the front during the day. The operational situation in the east and south of the country remains difficult.

The Russian invaders launched six missiles and two airstrikes, as well as 51 attacks from multiple launch rocket systems at the positions of the Defense Forces and populated areas. The enemy attacks resulted in civilian casualties and injuries, as well as destruction and damage to private and apartment buildings, an educational institution, and other civilian infrastructure.

During the day, Ukrainian aviation struck six areas where Russian army personnel were concentrated. The Ukrainian Air Defense destroyed one enemy Kh-59 guided missile.

Ukrainian missile units struck at two invaders' targets, specifically an artillery unit and an electronic warfare station.

In the Volyn and Polissya directions, the operational situation has not changed significantly, and no signs of the formation of offensive groups have been detected.

Designated units of the Armed Forces of Belarus continue to perform tasks in the areas bordering Ukraine.

In the Siverskyi and Slobozhanskyi directions, the Russian Federation continues to maintain a military presence in the border areas, conducts sabotage and reconnaissance activities, shells populated areas from its territory, and increases the density of minefields along the state border of Ukraine.

Russian troops carried out an airstrike near Krasnyi Khutir in the Chernihiv region.

The invaders attacked about 30 settlements on the Siverskyi and Slobozhanskyi directions with artillery and mortar fire, including Bleshnya Karpovychi in the Chernihiv region, Veselivka, Chuikivka and Vovkivka in the Sumy region, and Okip, Veterynarne, Lukyanivka, Starytsiai and Vovchansk in the Kharkiv region.

In the Kupiansk sector, Ukrainian defenders repelled an enemy attack east of Pishchane in the Kharkiv region. Russians tried unsuccessfully to break through the defense there.

Over 10 settlements in the Kupiansk direction suffered from Russian mortar and artillery fire during the day, including Dvorichna, Petropavlivka, and Ivanivka in the Kharkiv region.

In the Lyman direction, Ukrainian troops repelled six enemy attacks near Terny and Yampolivka in the Donetsk region. Russian troops tried to break through the defense there.

More than 10 localities in the Lyman direction suffered from artillery and mortar fire from the Russian army over the last day, including Makiivka, Nevske, and Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region, Terny, Torske, Verkhnokamyanske, Spirne and Fedorivka in the Donetsk region.

In the Bakhmut direction, the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled two enemy attacks in the area of Ivanivske, in the Donetsk region. The invaders unsuccessfully tried to improve their tactical position there.

More than 10 settlements in the Bakhmut direction came under fire from Russian mortars and artillery, including Vasyukivka, Bohdanivka, Ivanivske, Klishchiivka, Dyliivka in the Donetsk region.

In the Avdiivka direction, the Ukrainian defenders repelled 16 enemy attacks near Ocheretyne, Novobakhmutivka, Stepove, and Avdiivka, and another five near Pervomaiske and Nevelske in the Donetsk region.

Russian troops directed artillery and mortar fire at more than 15 localities in the Avdiivka direction, including Novobakhmutivka, Stepove, Avdiivka, Severne, and Pervomayske in the Donetsk region.

In the Mariinka direction, the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to hold back the enemy in the areas of Heorhiivka, Pobeda, and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region. The Russian army unsuccessfully tried 18 times to improve its tactical position there.

The Russians fired mortars and artillery at Krasnohorivka, Heorhiivka, Pobeda, Novomykhailivka, and Paraskoviivka.

In the Shakhtarsk direction, the invaders did not conduct offensive (assault) operations but instead fired artillery and mortars at more than 10 settlements, including Vodyane, Prechystivka, Zolota Nyva, and Staromaiorske in the Donetsk region.

In the Zaporizhzhia direction, Ukrainian troops repelled an enemy attack north of Pryyutne in the Zaporizhzhia region. More than 15 settlements there came under artillery and mortar fire from Russian troops, including Poltavka, Chervone, Charivne, Bilohirya, Mala Tokmachka, Robotyne and Pyatykhatky in the Zaporizhzhia region.

In the Kherson direction, Russian artillery attacked Kherson. The areas of Novotyahynka, Ivanivka, and Ponyativka in the Kherson region came under enemy fire from multiple rocket launchers.

On the left bank of the Dnipro River, the Russian army has not abandoned its intention to drive the Ukrainian Defense Forces units from their footholds. During the day, the Russians tried to storm the positions of Ukrainian defenders there seven times, but to no avail.

As reported, Russian troops are trying to tighten the defense in the southern direction.
