Germany’s finance minister calls for more aid to Ukraine from EU members
The politician stated this at the party Congress on Sunday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
"Germany can and will continue to make its contributions. If necessary, the country will be able to mobilize even more military and financial support. But it should not be the case where Germany, which already provides half of all aid to Ukraine, does even more for others to be able to continue to do too little," said Lindner.
Europe, he believes, is a community of values, and this should also manifest itself through action.
The politician also harshly criticized the Alternative for Germany rightwing force, drawing parallels with 1933, when National Socialists came to power in Germany. The warning "Never again" is not only about the past because it directly applies to modern times, he stressed.
The Congress was dedicated to the upcoming elections to the European Parliament, scheduled for June. Lindner emphasized that during the elections, it’s the voices of freedom that should be strengthened, not those of right-wing or left-wing populists.
At the Congress, the liberals elected Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann, head of the Bundestag Defense Committee, as their main candidate for the upcoming EP elections. It should be recalled that she she is one of the most vocal Ukraine supporters in the German parliament. The politician is among those who has been constantly calling on the Olaf Scholz government to approve the supply of Taurus long-range cruise missiles to Ukraine.
