Foreign instructors’ combat experience differs from Ukrainian realities - General Taran

That’s according to the chief of the Main Doctrine and Training Department (J7) of the General Staff, Ukraine’s Armed Forces, Major General Oleksiy Taran, who spoke in an interview with ArmyInform, Ukrinform saw.

"Most of the foreign instructors who train our servicemen formally have combat experience, but there is a nuance here," he said.

The general noted that the concept of the deployment of the US Army and NATO Ground Forces provides that "a soldier’s foot steps on enemy territory" only after the objectives of the air raid operation have been achieved, that is, the enemy forces – defeated, the command system – undermined, and will to resist – suppressed.

According to Taran, in such conditions, the level of threat to the life of a serviceman differs from what Ukrainian soldiers deal with today.

"This is significantly different from the nature of war raging on our soil, whose features include brutal firefights "for every apartment block" in an urban setting, non-stop "meat grinder assaults" of our defensive positions by Shtorm-Z units, round-the-clock fire pressure by prevailing artillery forces, and enemy aerial superiority," said the official.

Taran also noted that the Armed Forces of Ukraine assign a number of own instructors when groups of recruits go for training abroad.

"It’s the joint work of Ukrainian and international instructors that ensures proper training of servicemen, units, and headquarters for war, transfer of combat experience to our foreign partners, deepening of cooperation between the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the armed forces of NATO member states," he concluded.
