War update: Twenty-six combat engagements occur, AFU continue offensive in south

This is stated in the report by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine as of 18:00 on August 28 published on Facebook.

“During the day, the enemy launched eight missile strikes, 30 airstrikes, and 19 MLRS attacks on the positions of Ukrainian troops and populated settlements. As a result of Russian terrorist attacks, unfortunately, civilians were killed and injured. Residential buildings, schools, and other civilian infrastructure objects were destroyed,” the report reads

Twenty-six combat engagements occurred during the day.

In Volyn and Polissia directions, the operational situation has not changed significantly.

In Sivershchyna and Slobozhanshchyna directions, the aggressor launched airstrikes in the areas of Popivka and Slavhorod in Sumy region. Mortars and artillery were fired at more than 20 settlements, in particular, Karpovychi, Kamin in Chernihiv region; Volfyne, Boyaro-Lezhachi, Popivka, Stukalivka in Sumy region; Mala Vovcha, Okhrymivka, Veterynarne in Kharkiv region.

In Kupyansk direction, the enemy carried out an air strike near Ivanivka and Kyslivka in Kharkiv region. The settlements of Kyslivka, Kolodiazne, and Berestove in Kharkiv region were hit with artillery and mortars.

In Lyman direction, the Russian invaders launched airstrikes near Tverdokhlibove, Bilohorivka in Luhansk region; Spirne in Donetsk region. More than 10 settlements came under enemy artillery fire, including Nevske, Bilohorivka in Luhansk region; Verkhniokamyanske, Torske, Spirne in Donetsk region.

In Bakhmut direction, the aggressor launched an airstrike in the area of New York in Donetsk region. More than 15 settlements, including Pryvillia, Hryhorivka, Ivanivske, Klishchiyivka, and Druzhba in Donetsk region, were hit with enemy artillery.

In Avdiyivka direction, the enemy launched an air strike in the area of Avdiyivka. Oleksandropil, Novokalynove, Avdiyivka, and Sieverne in Donetsk region were shelled with artillery and mortars.

In Maryinka direction, the defense forces continue to hold back the advance of Russian troops in the area of Maryinka, Donetsk region. The aggressor launched an airstrike in the areas of Krasnohorivka and Kostiantynivka in Donetsk region. The settlements of Krasnohorivka, Maryinka, Pobieda, Novomykhaylivka, Katerynivka in Donetsk region were hit with artillery.

In Shakhtarske direction, the enemy carried out airstrikes in the areas of Vodiane, Novosilka, Blahodatne in Donetsk region. Such settlements as Vuhledar, Vodiane, Prechystivka, Zolota Nyva, and Urozhayne in Donetsk region came under enemy artillery fire.

In Zaporizhzhia direction, the invaders launched airstrikes in the areas of Robotyne and Novodanylivka in Zaporizhzhia region. More than 20 settlements came under artillery fire, including Novodarivka, Poltavka, Huliaypilske, Charivne, Mali Shcherbaky, Kamyanske in Zaporizhzhia region.

In Kherson direction, the enemy launched airstrikes in the areas of Mykolayivka and Olhivka in Kherson region. Kherson, Sadove in Kherson region; Ochakiv in Mykolayiv region were hit with artillery.

At the same time, the Defense Forces of Ukraine continue to conduct the offensive operation in Melitopol direction, gain a foothold on the achieved boundaries, and carry out counter-battery fight.

"During the day, the aviation of the defense forces launched eight strikes on enemy personnel concentration areas, one – on a command post, and three – on enemy anti-aircraft missile systems," the General Staff informs.

In addition, missile and artillery units hit two command posts, an air defense system, and an artillery system on firing position.
