War update: 24 combat engagements at front during the day

This is stated in the report by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine as of 18:00 on August 17 published on Facebook.

“During the day, the enemy launched four missile strikes, 37 airstrikes, and 27 MLRS attacks on the positions of Ukrainian troops and populated settlements. As a result of the Russian terrorist attacks, civilians were killed and injured. Residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure objects were damaged. Twenty-four combat engagements took place during the day,” the report reads.

In Volyn and Polissia directions, the operational situation has not changed significantly.

In Sivershchyna and Slobozhanshchyna directions, the enemy fired mortars and artillery on more than 20 settlements, in particular, Kliusy, Yeline, Turya in Chernihiv region; Rozhkovychi, Iskryskivshchyna, Uhroyidy in Sumy region; Ohirtseve, Hatyshche, Vovchansk, Pokaliane in Kharkiv region.

In Kupyansk direction, the aggressor carried out unsuccessful offensive operations in the area of Synkivka in Kharkiv region. Airstrikes were launched near Petropavlivka and Kucherivka in Donetsk region. The settlements of Petropavlivka, Podoly, Kyslivka, Kotliarivka, Tabayivka, Cherneshchyna in Kharkiv region; Nadiya in Luhansk region came under enemy artillery and mortar fire.

In Lyman direction, the invaders carried out unsuccessful offensive operations near Bilohorivka in Luhansk region. Airstrikes were launched in the areas of Bilohorivka in Luhansk region; Terny, Yampil, Siversk in Donetsk region. About 20 settlements, in particular, Nevske, Dibrova, Bilohorivka in Luhansk region; Torske, Yampil, Siversk, Verkhniokamyanske in Donetsk region, were hit with artillery.

In Bakhmut direction, the enemy carried out unsuccessful offensive operations in the areas of Bohdanivka and Bila Hora in Donetsk region. Airstrikes were launched near Spirne and Vasiukivka in Donetsk region. More than 20 settlements were struck with artillery, including Klishchiyivka, Bila Hora, Dyliyivka, Oleksandro-Shultyne in Donetsk region.

In Avdiyivka direction, Russian troops conducted unsuccessful offensive operations near Keramik in Donetsk region. Airstrikes were launched in the areas of Novokalynove and Avdiyivka in Donetsk region. More than 10 settlements, including Oleksandropil, Keramik, Novokalynove, Avdiyivka, Sieverne, and Nevelske in Donetsk region, were hit with artillery.

In Maryinka direction, the defense forces continue to hold back the advance of Russian troops near Maryinka and Krasnohorivka in Donetsk region. The enemy launched an airstrike near Krasnohorivka in Donetsk region. More than 10 settlements, in particular, Krasnohorivka, Maryinka, Pobieda, Novomykhaylivka, Kostiantynivka, and Katerynivka in Donetsk region, were hit with artillery.

In Shakhtarske direction, the aggressor made unsuccessful attempts to restore the lost position in the area of Urozhayne, Donetsk region. More than 10 settlements, including Vodiane, Bohoyavlenka, Vuhledar, Prechystivka, Velyka Novosilka, Blahodatne in Donetsk region, were hit with artillery.

In Zaporizhzhia direction, the enemy launched an air strike near Robotyne in Zaporizhzhia region. More than 20 settlements, including Bilohirya, Novodanylivka, Novoandriyivka, Shcherbaky, Novoyakovlivka, and Stepove in Zaporizhzhia region, were hit with artillery.

In Kherson direction, more than 15 settlements came under enemy artillery fire, including Kherson, Novoberyslav, Lvove, Poniativka, Mykilske, Sadove in Kherson region.

At the same time, the Defense Forces of Ukraine continue to go on offensive in Melitopol and Berdiansk directions, gain a foothold on the reached boundaries, and carry out counter-battery fight.

"During the day, the aviation of the defense forces launched seven strikes on enemy personnel, weapons, and military equipment clusters and two more on anti-aircraft missile systems. Also, our defenders destroyed two enemy Ka-52 helicopters," the General Staff reports.

In addition, missile and artillery units hit four enemy artillery systems on firing positions, two ammunition depots, and an EW station.
