Ukrainian defense forces make successes south of Urozhayne, consolidate their positions - General Staff

Andriy Kovalev, a spokesman for the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, said this on the air of the 'United News' telethon, according to Ukrinform.

"Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to conduct offensive operations in the Bakhmut, Melitopol, and Berdiansk directions. In the direction south of Urozhayne, they have succeeded, consolidating their positions, inflicting artillery fire on the identified enemy targets, and carrying out counter-battery measures," he noted.

According to the spokesman, in the Bakhmut direction, Ukrainian defenders continue to conduct offensive actions south of the city of Bakhmut, consolidating the achieved positions.

At the same time, he emphasized that Russians conducted unsuccessful offensives in the areas of Avdiivka and Maryinka, adding that the enemy suffers significant losses in personnel, weapons, and equipment, moves units and troops, and uses reserves.

Kovalev also informed that the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to hold back the Russian offensive in the Kupiansk, Lyman, and northern flank of the Bakhmut direction.

As reported, on August 16, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine announced the liberation of Urozhayne, in the Donetsk region.
