National Guard commander: Offensive already bring results, time will come and Ukrainian forces will make a breakthrough

Ukrainian National Guard Commander Oleksandr Pivnenko has said he is convinced that Ukraine's defense forces will restore the country within its 1991 borders, but it will take time.

He said this in an interview with the Ukrainska Pravda news outlet, Ukrinform reports.

Asked when the Ukrainian offensive can bring certain results, Pivnenko said the fact that the Ukrainian military is moving forward is already a result.

"For us, every meter is already a result. We move forward. You will see that the time will come and we will make a breakthrough in some direction. […] We will find a loophole and go in, and it will be fine. And they [Russian invaders] will lose many of our territories," Pivnenko said.

He added: "We know that we have no way out - we will reach the 1991 borders. It takes time."

Evaluating the preparedness of the invaders, Pivnenko said that the most trained of those he had to deal with were mercenaries from the Wagner Group.

"But there are also nuances there: there are assault units and there are mobilized prisoners who continue defensive operations. They have a tougher approach, they do not value human life," he said.

According to Pivnenko, the fact that Wagner fighters are not at the front today simplifies the task of the Ukrainian forces.

At the same time, according to him, the Russians are constantly changing their tactics.

"But everything depends on the units. There are ordinary military formations, there are newly mobilized soldiers there is Wagner, there is Akhmat and so on. They have a lot of artillery. At the expense of many people and artillery, they perform most of their tasks and destroy [Ukrainian] positions. We need to maneuver, retreat, constantly change tactics," he said.

As for the situation in the Svatove sector, Pivnenko noted that "there is nothing extremely alarming there."

"They [Russian troops] did not reach Kharkiv at one time, and now they will not even reach this [Oskil] river which they want to reach," he said.
